How to Get Rid of the Boredom of Adulthood: Winston Churchill's Tips

Very often synonyms of adulthood become boredom and depression, resulting from unloved work and due to a number of other distressing factors. Many people make one mistake when choosing one lesson, believing that the whole problem is multitasking. But on the example of the British leader Winston Churchill (1874-1965), it can be seen that the problem is not multitasking at all, but the absence of highly paid interesting work and creativity, responsibilities that one does not like to perform.

Churchill once said: “It is better to make news than to talk about them,” which means that you need to Live. So, let's take advantage of Winston Churchill's advice that promises us to get rid of the boredom of adulthood.

Tip 1: find your favorite job

Many skip this point, citing excuses: “It's too late to look for a new job”, “Nobody will take me, there is no special education”, “I do not want to start all over again”, etc. Few people are inspired by the phrase Confucius: (551 BC - 479 BC) “Do your favorite thing and you won’t work a day in your life,” and what a waste! It contains a great truth.

It may take some time to search for your calling, but the result will please you. Churchill advises changing various spheres, trying oneself in them - this is the only way to understand what kind of activity you are “fused with” and forget about time. The mistake of many is to think and reflect, passively expecting something. This approach is not entirely true. We can dream a lot, but then it turns out that we don’t want it at all, because we don’t see things “from the wrong side”.

In short, what you need to do:

  • try to do what is interesting to you now;
  • look around at the problems around and try to solve them (finding urgent problems helps organize your business - finding a problem, you help others solve it);
  • do what captures you (and this can be learned by trial).

Tip 2: Stay Always Active

Nowadays, you can find a lot of pseudo-gurus on the YouTube channel who “know” how to live: some promise that you can achieve everything you want with the visualization method, others tell you how to achieve success in a short time. Listening to them, you will never come to success. All great people, before becoming such, spent a lot of hours on their pumping: intellectual, physical, spiritual. And they always acted.

It is very appropriate to recall the phrase: "The world belongs to those who act." If you want to achieve heights, you have no choice but to pull yourself together and take action. At first, you will be lazy, you will want to sleep longer, watch a TV show instead of spending time on self-education - this is normal. Start small (for example, instead of watching a TV show, spend this time reading) - so one good habit will be followed by another.

Tip 3: look for opportunities in your free time

Winston Churchill advises spending free time looking for new opportunities. If you work in an unloved job, and relax in your free time, the vicious circle will continue. It’s much more productive to study in your free minutes, to learn more about the business to which you are really drawn.

Churchill realized that his calling was in writing. And do you know what he did in 3 hour breaks when he served in India? He honed his writing skills while his military peers slept or entertained themselves with playing cards. Churchill's decision marked the beginning of his literary career. It is not necessary to quit your previous job and devote all your time to your favorite business, but you can combine it.

Tip 4: squeeze out boredom

Look at the kids. They don’t have a minute to get bored! This is due to the fact that the world is new and unknown to them. Why are we adults, bored, even if our planet is not more than 35% studied? - take and discover, conquer new horizons! The reason for this is unfulfilled expectations, fatigue from unloved work, resentment, disappointment (including from ourselves). We do not see new horizons, although they are open to everyone ...

Churchill supplanted his melancholy with his beloved work and hobbies. To combat the bad mood, he used the method of hard breaks. Churchill's bodyguard once said: “He does not do what is catching on his boredom. If uninteresting interlocutors gather during a meal at the table, he will soon leave the table and leave, and if he finds the film boring, he will leave the cinema, even if he came to a movie show with Franklin Roosevelt himself. ”

How to suppress boredom:

  • find their addiction (everyone has a different one; someone experiences the pleasure of reading, while someone needs adventure);
  • do not push yourself into the framework - try to avoid glut from everything you do;
  • experiment - you can start with a simple one: prepare a new dish or change modest clothes to extravagant;
  • release your feelings - allow yourself to “let go” at least not for long: dance, sing, swear;
  • to become yourself - never play the roles imposed by society, and do not strive to please. Over time, you will realize how important this is.

Tip 5: concentration and routine

Self-discipline is very important, you will hear and read about it more than once. Almost all famous people made themselves, they are unfamiliar with blues and boredom. Plunging into the abyss of sadness and longing, you risk not getting out. No friends or loved one? Find the pros in this! No one will stop you from managing your daily routine. By the way, at Churchill he was very strict, due to which he was able to achieve unthinkable productivity.

In addition, he knew how to focus. Lt. Gen. Jan Jacob was amazed at Churchill’s ability to keep his focus on one thing: “When Churchill is busy solving a problem, nothing can distract him.” Never do work for the sake of doing work, you should see the goal in your efforts. Churchill set himself the task, for example, to write 1,000 words a day, and did it - follow his example.

Tip 6: imagine yourself king

It may seem that maintaining the enthusiasm of a mature person is possible only in case of inaction - avoiding a number of responsibilities and living only for yourself. In fact, this approach has a significant drawback: living in this way, we become spectators, and the spectator cannot rise to the stage and change the course of the production. Growing up, we lose the ability to control our reality, which leads us to depression.

How to get out of this? Yes, very easy! Remember how in childhood you experienced the joy of operating a light switch button. All because we felt how we influence our actions on reality. Each person can feel like a king - for this it is enough to take responsibility, in which power is enclosed. Pitiful adults are those people who all the time complain about something: salaries, power, the media, etc., while the happiest change something in this world.

Interesting fact: studies were conducted, during which it became clear that it was not the helm workers who experienced the most stress, but the passengers, all because the pilot was in control of the situation.

Remember a few rules:

  • Do not spare the effort;
  • refrain from the role of the victim;
  • Do not be afraid of enemies.

Tip 7: get the most out

If you want to create as God, use your leisure time productively. When Churchill noticed that he was giving unsatisfactory writing on the sheet, he put off literary work until the “best moment”. He did not spend his free time on rest, but switched to some other occupation. After a while, invigorated, he returned to literary activity.

Winston Churchill believed that by switching to different activities, a person trains the brain and at the same time gives him a break. There is no use in lying on a couch or for a walk, because at that moment the brain will be just as busy with something. It makes no sense to say to tired muscles: “I’m resting now,” the brain will still work, but the mind can be directed into a productive channel.

Summing up, we highlight the main tips of Churchill:

1. If you feel that you are starting to feel bored, get rid of it in the bud: sing, dance, watch a video on how to cook pancakes (by the way, you can try it, pancakes can be your full breakfast). Do what brings you joy, just say boredom: “No!”

2. Work at your favorite job, and if your activity does not bring you pleasure - change it without regret. Find an interesting hobby. Something will surely entice you - try the main thing.

3. Take responsibility for your life. What position attracts you more - the viewer or the director? In the first case, you do not control anything, and in the second you create your reality.
